Our story

Good conservation begins with good decisions. The Paper Conservation Lab was created to help collectors, galleries and institutions care for works on paper through museum standards, specialist expertise and independent conservation advice.

Working from conservation studios in Spain and London, we support projects across the UK, Europe and internationally, combining technical excellence with a carefully managed, personal service.

We believe every artwork deserves thoughtful assessment before intervention, clear communication throughout the process and conservation that respects both its material history and its future.

“Alicia did some restoration work on a print I wanted to sell. When I handed it over the condition was not great, with crease marks and some dirt. The work was tricky as much of the image was blank paper. And it had not been well framed. She did great work, flattening the work and taking great care to achieve the best condition. At auction, Bonhams described the condition as 'Excellent', and the piece sold at a higher price than expected. I'd be happy to recommend Alicia to anyone”
“I have been working with Alicia from Aquatint since 2015, and have employed her services on a number of restoration and conservation projects with great success. I have always found her to be helpful, professional and flexible. The quality of her work is excellent and she has often worked at short notice and with tight deadlines, which is what I often require as a private art dealer. I would not hesitate to recommend Alicia and Aquatint and look forward to working with her going forward.”
“Alicia Garcia worked for Bristol Museum & Art Gallery for two years as a paper conservator. She is a very conscientious professional, keen to do her best in consultation with her clients. Alicia treated a range of works on paper across the museum's collection from British watercolours to Japanese prints, working to exacting standards. The end results were beautiful and enhanced the artworks considerably. I have no hesitation in recommending her services.”
“I have known Alicia professionally for many years and have had the opportunity to observe her development as a paper conservator. She brings a high level of technical skill, thoughtful judgement, and a strong commitment to professional standards. Alicia has experience working with a wide range of clients and collections, and approaches projects with care, diligence, and professionalism. She is organised, reliable, and attentive to the specific needs of each object and project.”
